"There is so much you can teach through sports that goes way beyond simply learning to throw or kick a ball"

FUNdamentals

i-Play is an after-school program where it's  all about FUN.  Fun as in learning the FUNdamental movement and sport skills needed to become a true athlete.  Fun as in developing the FUNdamental social skills and personal qualities needed to thrive as a leader and a respectable person.   And of course, fun as in everything becomes more enjoyable when things are FUN.

At i-Play, we don't just give the child a ball and watch them.  Our approach, is to give the child a ball, teach them how to use that ball, and then motivate them to want to do more with it.  It's about giving them the confidence to help them surmount athletic and social challenges and to give them tools and skills that they can use in everyday life.    "There is so much you can teach through sports that goes way beyond simply learning to throw or kick a ball".

MULTI-SPORTS

The reason why it is important to play different sports at a young age is that it helps develop different skills, increases confidence and diminishes the chance of burning out.  Sadly, sport specialization is a primary reason why 70% of children drop out of organized sport by the age of 13.  Instead of focusing on becoming sport specific players, children under the age of 15 should  focus on becoming overall athletes.

No matter if you want your child to simply become active for life or become an elite player in their sport of choice, i-Play can definitely be beneficial to their development.

i-Play doesn't replace organized sports, it complements it.  By exposing your child to dozens of different sports, i-Play allows your child to develop and re-enforce many different athletic and social skills.  This will not only make them a better overall athlete and individual, it will also make them stronger at their favorite sport.

OUR PROGRAM

i-PLAY EVERY DAY

May it be in our school size gym or on our large outdoor field, our "i-Play Every Day" athletic based after-school program (daycare) allows kids to do just that...play every day!  However, it is important to understand that this is  NOT the same as having free-play all day, every day.   Free-play is important and the kids do enjoy it, but it cannot be the only thing.  Children also need structure and guidance to help them build a strong foundation.  This is where our curriculum really kicks into high gear.   Every school day, your child will take part in a session that is led by one of our coaches.  These are mandatory sessions which will help your child develop specific athletic and social skills.  These sessions have specific goals that are guided by the LTD (Long-Term Development) framework (formerly known as LTAD) and Physical Literacy principals (which are the building blocks of all athletic foundations).

OUR FACILITY

Located at 77 Hildegard in Moncton, our facility consists of...

THE FIRST

i-Play Athletics opened in 2011 and was the first multi-sport daycare in New Brunswick.  The original idea for i-Play began in 2010 when Diane LeBlanc wanted to grow her in home daycare of 10 years into a full daycare facility. Her husband, Richard LeBlanc, who was very active as a child and has over 20 years of coaching experience came up with the idea of a sports daycare.  As a child, Richard spent every free minute after school playing, being active and having fun. He wanted to bring that back and create a daycare where kids today could have fun and be active through sports and games.

Having previously trained through softball Canada’s CANPitch program, Richard studied Sport Canada’s LTAD model. Through LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) Richard saw that todays children are missing most basic fundamental movement skills. Not having fundamental movement skills physically is the same as not being able to read or write in elementary.  Just like children who have difficulty reading in class, children without these movement skills have lower self esteem and tend to not want to participate. Richard knew that the LTAD model connects the dots from a child's first steps to a healthy and physically active adult.

OUR STAFF

The staff section may be the last on this list, but it is definitely not the last in importance.  Our staff is what makes i-Play, i-Play.   As mentioned previously, our coaches are greatly involved in the athletic and social development of the kids that are enrolled here.  Our coaches aren't with us to just supervise groups of children, they are with us to actually coach.
